Meet Karl

"I'm Karl Sila and I'm a Normal guy."  I was born in Bloomington then moved around some when I was little and my dad was in the Navy.  We then moved back to Normal where I grew up on the west side.  I'm a divorced dad with four kids, a full mix of bios and steps and boys and girls.  I still have two kids in the Parkside-Parkside-West school track in Unit 5.

I attended Glenn and Oakdale elementary schools, Parkside Junior High, and graduated from Normal Community.  While I got my Electrical Engineering degree from U of I, I've also taken classes at ISU and at Heartland.  Growing up I delivered newspapers, mowed lawns, helped at my parents' accounting firm, and worked a few other odd jobs.  After college, I worked in the Chicago area for a few years before coming back for a position at State Farm and I now work at ISU.

I was a long-time Cub Scout volunteer, a former Dads-4-Dads coordinator at Children's Home & Aid, served on the Normal Public Library Board, and have been an actively involved dad.  (My kids appeared multiple times in Children's Museum publications when they were younger.)  I'm a Libertarian and a free thinker, so I'm not tied down by any political debts or allegiances and approach any and all issues with an open mind and a desire to find the best approaches and policies for the people of Normal, regardless of whether it's considered left, right, center, compromise, or whatever else.

My one vote can't change much on the Council, so please also consider voting for Stan Nord and Marc Tiritilli.
